Air Climate RegulationCompared to other building materials, Holz100 has outstanding heat storage capacity, and therefore cools off very slowly. A Holz100 house is not only warm in the winter but stays pleasantly cool in summer. The summer heat penetrates very slowly from the outside to the interior, as does the heated air from the inside to the exterior.
SustainableHolz100 consists of 100% unglued and non-chemically treated wood, grown in local sustainably managed forests. According to old wisdom the trees are harvested at the right time.
Earthquake safeThe Holz100 system, with its panel units, is not a rigid or stiff one in terms of structural analysis. In cases of earthquake the wall structure made of dowelled parts are seen to demonstrate outstanding flexibility to horizontal accelerations that occur.
Thermal InsulationSolid wood provides very good insulation, and the Holz100 units with their internal, thin air layers are even twice as good. You can install them without additional insulation material. The Holz100 40cm thick thermo-wall has a certified thermal conducting co-efficient of 0.079W/mK which is a world record among all structural building materials.
HomogenousThe Thoma Holz100 system consists exclusively of the renewable raw material wood. The natural swelling and shrinking of wood has no detrimental effect on Holz100, due to its cross-layered structure.
BreathableHolz100 has a diffusion resistance of u=37.2m. This means that for a 17cm thick Holz100 panel, the diffusion equivalent air layer thickness is 6.3m (according to EN ISO 10456 vapour diffusion resistance of solid wood u=50)
The increased breathability combined with the wind tightness of Holz100 result in a multifunctional solution – a building material that doesn’t require elaborate layer arrangements in walls. |
AirtightHolz100 walls are airtight on their surface due to multiple layers of solid wood. Holz100 walls can reach 0.6 if put through the Blow-Door Test.
Fire SafetyHolz100 homes provide 3 to 5 times better fire safety than regular stick frames, concrete or brick buildings. Even exposure to flames and temperatures of 900-1000C for 150 minutes didn’t affect the structural load bearing capacity of a Holz100 home.
Thoma Holz100 40cm thick wall: REI 120 minutes, or F90 fire resistance Thoma Holz100 17cm thick wall: REI 60 minutes or F60 fire resistance |
SoundproofBecause solid wood is heavy, Holz100 offers excellent airborne and impact sound-proofing. Additional requirements can easily be met by adding special structures such as a 2-layer Holz100 sound absorbing wall. Holz100 double layer soundproofing Rw=63dB
Radiation SafeThe solid wood structure of any Holz100 part in combination with the reflecting and absorbing properties of the wood shell minimise the permeability of the high frequency radiation to a great degree.
